Seungmin was born in Seoul, South Korea, and has an older sister. He attends Cheongdam High School and is known by his members as “Snail” and by fans as “Sunshine”. Seungmin speaks English well, despite only learning it for three months in Los Angeles when he was in the fourth grade. He joined JYP in 2017 after winning second place in JYPE’s 13th Open Audition.
Seungmin has a number of hobbies, including writing in his diary, listening to music, and eating. He is a morning person, and is the cleanest member of the group. He loves autumn and his favourite food is eggs. Seungmin can’t eat spicy food and will start sweating a lot if he does. He wants to try dark concepts in the future and his role models are DAY6, Kim Dong-ryul, and Sandeul from B1A4.
