High School Software Engineer Internship
There are a variety of high school software engineer internships for high schoolers in different states and countries. On the home page of horizonworldwide.org (the website you are on now), there is a master list of high school internships. You can filter the internship table to find internships in your state and you can also filter them by category. Because you are looking for a high school software engineer internship, filter the table by clicking “Computer Science.”
- One popular high school software engineer internship is Research Science Institute at MIT. This program for high school juniors is extremely competitive and looks extremely good on college applications. You can live in any state to apply to this program. It is unpaid, however.
- More popular high school software engineer internships include the NASA high school internships. These are only for high school students who live in certain states, however. Specifically, these internships are usually only offered to students living in Maryland, Virginia, New York, and West Virginia. You can apply for the NASA internships here. These programs on this website are paid.
- Another popular high school software engineer internship that you can apply for your senior year of high school is called the Amazon Future Engineer scholarship + internship. This opportunity offered by Amazon gives you a $40,000 scholarship ($10,000 for each of the 4 years of high school) and a programming internship at Amazon after your freshman year of college. Even though this is not a high school Amazon internship, you would be applying for this opportunity during the fall of your senior year of high school. I actually won this scholarship + internship. - Another popular high school software engineer internship is called Google CSSI. You get paid about $1,000 to learn computer science topics with Google engineers. You can read more about Google CSSI in my Google CSSI post.
- If you are a high schooler in Illinois, Fermilab offers three different Fermilab high school software engineer internships. For Chicago high schoolers specifically, UChicago offers the CDAC program which is a computer science research program for students who are high school freshmen and above. There is also Chance UIC Digital Scholars, which isn’t really a high school software engineer internship and you’re not paid for it, but they teach you about computer science at UIC.
- If you are a New York high schooler, there is also this paid comptuer science and engineering research opportunity at Syracuse University. There is also the HOPP Summer Student Program, computational biology high school software engineer internship for Manhattan high schoolers who are 14+.
- If you are a Maryland high schooler there is the Maryland State Archives, using computer technology for history archival work program.
- If you are a Wisconsin high schooler there are the Maydm high school software engineer internships. You must be a rising high school junior or senior to participatae.
- If you are a Washington high schooler there is the Microsoft high school internship. Students must be a graduating high school senior to participate.
- MIT primes is avialable for high school students in Massachussets.
- PRIMES-USA is avaialbe for students in many states.
