High school hospital internships

Children’s Hospital Colorado- Summer Child Health Research Internship is one of the most well-known high school hospital internships. Students must be rising seniors in high school, undergraduate students, graduate students, or students completing their first year of medical school. To cover housing and travel costs, each student will receive a $3,500 stipend.

Students will collaborate with faculty members from the Department of Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital Colorado/University of Colorado-Anschutz Medical Campus. Students will have the opportunity to conduct research on child health during the summer program. Students will have the opportunity to present their research after completing the internship.

BRIMS is a unique science training opportunity for graduating high school seniors in Cincinnati and college freshmen. Participants will receive $9.30 an hour. This program is intended to encourage minority students to pursue biomedical research careers by involving them in cutting-edge scientific research at an academic medical center.

3) Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Internship to Graduating Seniors

High School Senior Summer Internship Program, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, is an eight-week program where graduating high school seniors work 20 hour days with a mentor in one or more of nine pediatric clinical specialties. Only high school seniors from Cincinnati can apply for this part-time, paid internship. Part-time interns are paid $9.30/hour and work 20 hours per week.

This program is highly competitive and offers students who are motivated to pursue higher education (MD/PhD or MD / PhD) an opportunity to explore careers in Medicine, Clinical Research, and Medicine.

4) Summer Student Research Program

A stipend is available for compensation. Eligibility: High School students in their junior or final year with at least one year of math and biology. Undergraduate students enrolled in an undergraduate program. 2. Students must have reached 16 years old by the end of the program year. Students from underrepresented backgrounds in sciences include individuals with disabilities, students with disabilities, first generation college students, and individuals who live with low-income families or are otherwise considered to be disadvantaged.

The Program Includes:

• You will be paired with a mentor to help you navigate a basic or clinical research project. The mentor you are assigned will determine the scope of your project.
• Participate in a 9-week research program that is based on a curriculum.
• Participate in weekly seminars and meetings with MD’s or PhD’s from UCSF and other regional healthcare system members along with other CHORI summer student.
• Students read and discuss scientific papers weekly in an intra-program journal club.
• Program leadership creates fun social activities.
• A one-day Research Symposium will be held on the last day of program (typically the first Friday in August).

5) Seacole Scholars Program

Seacole Scholars Program is named after pioneering nurse Mary Seacole and offers summer employment opportunities for high school students with their Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) licenses. The Lifespan Summer Employment Program operates this program, which is managed by Rhode Island Hospital’s Nursing Department. Lifespan employs seven weeks of summer CNAs each year. Accepted youth spend four days per week working on the nursing units. One day per week, they also attend Lifespan Workforce or Youth Development Training. The program lasts 40 hours per week and is paid. You will need to be a Rhode Island resident to apply for the program.

Candidates who are eligible include:

• Youth between 16 and 19 years old (must have been 16 by April the year before which summer employment will be offered). )
• A valid CNA license is required for youth.

7) Magee-Womens Research Institute (MWRI)

Magee-Womens Research Institute is an independent institute that focuses on reproductive biology and women’s health. It is also one of the most important institutes in the country. The High School Summer Internship Program offers students the chance to take part in basic, translational or clinical scientific research. It is open to students who are in their junior or senior years of high school and want to learn more about biomedical science. All applicants must be able to live in the southwest Pennsylvania region. The minimum hourly wage for students is $8. Housing is not available.
