Congress of Future Medical Leaders

The Congress of future medical leaders (CFML) is a fantastic program that allows high school students to get hands-on experience in medicine. But, it’s not for everyone.

Overview of the Congress Of Future Medical Leaders program

The Congress of Future Medical Leaders was established by the National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists to inspire confidence and awareness among talented high school students interested in pursuing a career as a doctor. Participants will hear from Nobel laureates and medical school deans, Ivy League leaders, top medical professionals, award-winning scientists, and inventors, as well as patients. In a virtual environment during the pandemic, students will make connections and mingle with other Delegates. After attending all sessions and taking notes, the Delegates will be awarded the Congress of Future Medical Leaders Award of Excellence, signed by a Nobel Laureate. Below is a picture of what the award looks like.

Bottega University will also grant students one college credit for completing the program and paying a fee. The Congress of Future Medical Leaders (CFML) is an annual student-run conference that brings together over 200 medical students from across the nation to learn, network, and is inspired by their peers. The event’s purpose is to provide a forum for medical students to exchange ideas on how they can tackle some of today’s most pressing issues facing health care in America. The Congress was designed to foster relationships between young physicians and leaders in the medical community at all levels. The hope is that these relationships will help shape future leaders who will improve patient care and address our nation’s healthcare challenges.

Sessions will be held virtually in 2022 on the following dates:

  • February 26 and 27, 2022
  • June 24, 25 and 26, 2022
  • November 5, 6 and 6, 2022

The delegates may also attend the second or third session for no additional charge. You can view more information about the program on their website called futuredocs.com.

The Congress will feature the contributions of the top medical innovators and young researchers around the globe, as well as patients who have been saved or changed by medicine.

On the stage, Delegates will see some of the most prominent scientists, engineers, doctors, and medical technology experts in medicine, engineering, research, science, and other areas. These individuals will give insight into their lives, how they work, and offer practical advice to Delegates.

Speaker mentors will be confirmed three months prior to the Congress. However, you can still look back at past speakers to see what topics and speakers are available. Past speakers can be seen here.

Eligibility for the Congress of Future Medical Leaders

Based on the identification of teachers, counselors, principals, and principals, students are invited to the Congress. Candidates should be nominated based on their commitment to the medical field, leadership potential, and academic excellence. Additional means may be used to identify students, such as academic events, honor societies, and medical institutions, medical society alumni, surveys, College Board’s Student Search Service, recommendations, and participation in surveys. To be eligible for the event, participants must have a minimum of 3.5 GPA either current or cumulative.

The program is limited to U.S. citizens and permanent residents only, so if you’re not from the U.S., this might not be the right fit for you. The Congress of Future Medical Leaders also requires participants to be able to commit six months of their time (two-thirds of which are spent onsite at Harvard Medical School).  Even so, many applicants find this opportunity rewarding enough to leap into the world of medicine through CFML.

Is the Congress of Future Medical Leaders legit?

The Congress of Future Medical Leaders is legitimate and does indeed provide the services advertised. But, membership does not automatically and necessarily provide meaningful benefits. This organization is for students who are interested in medicine and science. Although it claims to only accept “high-achieving” students for admission, the criteria for admission aren’t particularly high. It is dependent on getting a recommendation and having an average/high-average GPA.

However, students may still benefit. It might be worth it for those who want to expand their extracurricular activities in medicine. The program can also help you connect with industry leaders and peers, which could be a great asset in the future. Mentorship is also possible.

It’s not uncommon to be concerned about an organization being a fraud. The Congress of Future Medical Leaders, however, is not a scam. You should look for testimonials and reviews on the website and social media accounts of the organization. Does it appear to be a real presence? Do the reviews seem genuine? How much is it cost to attend? It should be alarming if it is too high. Discuss it with your teacher, guidance counselor, or other trusted mentor who is familiar with the college process.

Students only need a minimum GPA of a 3.5 and the identification of teachers, counselors, principals, and principals, students to be invited to the Congress.

Bottega University offers one college credit in conjunction with Congress of Future Medical Leaders. It costs $275. This includes $225 tuition for college credit and a $50 Bottega University Registration Fee. Tuition includes speakers, teaching, education staff, and the Congress of Future Medical Leaders Award of Excellence. As an educational benefit, delegates may attend all three Congresses for no additional cost. The Academy offers a limited number need-based scholarships. Please contact scholarship@futuredocs.com or call (617) 307-7425 for additional information about the Financial Need Scholarship. The delegates may also attend the second or third session of Congress for no additional charge.

College credit from Bottega University

College credit can be used to certify yourself or show colleges and other institutions that you have completed college-level academic work. To be eligible, delegates must attend all sessions, take notes and submit a Congress Reflection essay.

How do you validate your GPA for the Congress?

The Congress is an academic program. You must have a minimum of 3.5 GPA (or an equivalent) in order to be eligible for enrollment. This can be either cumulative or current. If you are not recommended by a teacher, it would be helpful to validate your GPA. You will receive detailed instructions at registration on how to validate your GPA. You can attend the Congress if you do not have a validated GPA but you won’t get the Award of Excellence until you submit your proof.

Can the Congress Consider Your Disabilities?

The Academy welcomes all children with disabilities. For more information, please contact the Admissions Office at (617-307-7425).

How do I participate best in the Congress virtually?

  1. Choose a quiet and well-lit space in your home.
  2. Make sure your environment is free from distractions, such as background noise or window glare.
  3. A computer workstation should have a comfortable chair that allows you to sit in the camera’s frame and has a solid-colored wall behind it.

Any attachments to your background wall (decorations or posters, paintings, etc.) should be suitable for schools.

What Type Of Technology Do You Need for Congress?

You will need the following to participate in the Congress:

  • A virus-free computer that can run the latest versions of internet browsers.
  • An internet connection that is fast enough for streaming video and audio. People who don’t have reliable internet access may still be able to participate in audio and video chat. You can also visit a library, church, or community center that has excellent internet access. Although not necessary, you can either connect to your router directly or move to a location with the best internet connection to have a better experience.
  • To engage in Congress breakout sessions, a microphone is necessary. If your computer does not have one, you can purchase a USB-connected headset that has a microphone.
  • A webcam is required to take part in Congress via video. An external webcam can be purchased to connect to your computer via USB if your computer doesn’t have one.

Are there any measures to stop uninvited observers entering the Congress environment? Yes, the technology team works hard to ensure that Congress is password-protected and secure for Delegates.

Are Parents/Guardians able to Participate in the Congress of Future Medical Leaders?

The Congress of Future Medical Leaders is open to parents and their families for no cost. This allows for deep, important “dinner table” conversations between parents and Delegates. Delegates are also encouraged and inspired to imagine a brighter future throughout Congress.
