The ASE certification is a national standard that measures the automotive technician’s knowledge and ability. It is not an academic certification, but rather a test that is created by committees of industry professionals and technicians.
This means that the questions are process-based and related to practical problems that you may encounter on the job as a mechanic. They’re not brand-specific and aren’t designed to trick you into answering them incorrectly, because they’ve been screened by multiple people before being sent to you.
You need to score at least 70% or more on an ASE exam to pass. Generally, the more questions you get right, the higher your score will be.
Once you’ve completed a few ASE practice tests, it’s time to move on to the real thing! The ASE tests are available online, and you can register to take them at any time during your certification window.
